Top 5 Studio Ghibli Films

18 August 2018 by Marie

For many kawaii plushie collectors, their collection isn't complete without at least one Studio Ghibli plushie, right? And what's better than spending your time dreaming about visiting the Ghibli Museum, whilst snuggling up with your plushies and watching your favourite Ghibli film! Here at YumeTwins, we've compiled a list of our top 5 favourite Studio Ghibli films that we can watch over and over again without growing tired! Let's take a look at what made the cut~

Princess Mononoke - Princess Mononoke is about humans waging a war against nature. The main protagonist Ashitaka stumbling upon one of these very battles whilst trying to find a cure and the source for his curse. Ashitaka then tries to find balance between the two sides. So why do we like Princess Mononoke so much? Not only is it visually stunning, but amongst the main characters are a hell of a lot of strong women, and boy do we love our strong female rolemodels!

The Cat Returns - The Cat Returns is one of those lesser known Ghibli films. With one of the main characters, Baron, hailing from another Ghibli film called Whisper of the Heart. The film is about a girl named Haru who can talk to cats. One day she saves a cat from being hit by a truck, and this cat turns out to be the prince of Cats, who then spirits her away to marry him. The film is heartwarming and definitely one that cat lovers can enjoy!

Kiki's Delivery Service - Kiki's delivery service is about a young witch named Kiki, who upon turning 13 goes on a journey in order to hone her skills as a witch. The plot follows her shenanigans and shows her overcoming her troubles as she grows as both a person and a witch and makes a lot of new friends along the way! It's a lovely coming of age story, and despite the film already being 30 years old next year, it still feels very modern.

Spirited Away - Spirited Away is about a young girl called Chihiro who gets Spirited Away to a different world along with her parents. In order to save her parents from the witch Yubaba, Chihiro must work in the huge bathhouse serving many different magical creatures and spirits. The plot follows Chihiro as she tries to escape from the bath house with the aid of her newly made friends, Sen, No Face and company. Again, the film has a lot of amazing scenery and you just can't get bored of it no matter how many times you watch it.

Howl's Moving Castle - Howl's Moving Castle follows Sophie, at humble hat maker as she becomes cursed by the hand of the Witch of the Waste and is turned into an old woman! Sophie then finds the wizard Howl, and they help each other overcome their curses along with new friends they make along the way. Why do we love Howl's Moving Castle so much? Well first of all, like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, the visuals are absolutely breathtaking. Watching Sophie overcome her lack of confidence and grow to love herself is heartwarming, and the same with Howl! We just can't get enough of this film!
