TokyoTreat January 2018 - New Year Party
Happy New Year's to all of our TokyoTreat family! We hope you have had a wonderful holiday season and that you rang in the New Year with an amazing night!
In Japan, there are quite a few unique activities that are done to celebrate the upcoming year. There is a very popular singing competition, know as the Red & White Year-End Song Festival (or in Japanese: Kohaku Utagassen), where two teams, red and white, battle it out with song to see who the best singers are!
On January 1st, many families go to nearby shrines to pray for good fortune for the upcoming year. They usually offer a small amount of money to the shrine, clap their hands three times before the shrine, pray, and then bow!
We wanted to help you experience a bit of Japanese New Year's culture through popular snacks and flavors that are eaten during this time! You will find many traditional flavors that Japanese families enjoy on New Year's Day, as well as some other snacks that we hope make you remember the fun-filled times of past New Year's Eves!
As always, we will have a fun photo contest where you can be creative and win some awesome goods and even a free premium subscription!
Our Lucky Treat this month features some exclusive, delicious Japanese snacks, the ever-so-kawaii lazy egg Gudetama, and some fun video game themed Pokemon and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild items! Remember, any subscriber is eligible to win this giant prize, so make sure to subscribe if you want a chance to win!
