Japanese candy and snacks are a passion of ours here at TokyoTreat. We love to find fun ways to eat and enjoy all the Japanese snacks that are included in the Japanese candy box that we curate. However, we were blindsides by the newest snack combination! Ramen is insanely popular in Japan, so much that it even has its own museum, and one of the most popular ramen snacks is Baby-Star Ramen! When we heard that this ramen Japanese snack was slated as the latest ice cream topping, we were at first confused and then oddly intrigued. We mean, this isn't the first time we were shocked by Japanese candy fusions, but this definitely is up there! While this may not be a snack we could include into your snack box, we knew we still needed to try it at least once!
After a trip out to the local Seven-Eleven, we were able to get our hands on this crazy treat! You can definitely see the Baby-Star Ramen branding on the lid. The cute mascot character is even poking their head up a bit! The Japanese says Ramen on Ice Cream – Butter Caramel flavor. Butter caramel ice cream topped with ramen? Yeah, we most definitely needed to taste this now.
So we decided to dig on in! Yup, that is most definitely Baby-Star Ramen bits. The savory snack combined with the butter caramel ice cream beneath creates not only an odd flavor mixture, but also a unique texture fusion too. When we took a bite, our senses were overloaded with tastes and textures we hadn't quite experienced before. Of the people who tried it, half didn't like at all and half weren't sure what to think. One person decided to take one for the team and down it all!
Overall, this ice cream had us shook…in a way we aren't sure was good or bad. We are still happy that we got to experience this unique Japanese snack nonetheless though! Would you be able to try this ice cream? Let us know in the comments below.
