In Japan, trains aren’t just a way to get from place to place; they’re also a source of excitement and adventure! Themed trains are a big part of Japan’s culture because of their distinctive and creative designs. The recent launch of the zombie Halloween train is no exception.

It has become a hit and left a lasting impression on zombie fans and those looking to experience an exclusive Halloween. Let’s explore this spooky thing and how to have a memorable Halloween in Japan!

What kind of novelty trains do they have in Japan?

One of the most fascinating things about these novelty trains is that they come in various themes. Some are covered in beloved characters, like the Pokemon with You train, while others have cute cat designs, like the famous Tamaden cat train.

There’s even a dino-themed train for those who love dinosaurs! These trains often have various special activities, such as play areas, photo spots, and chances to meet fun characters. Furthermore, there are fun toy-themed ones, where passengers can enjoy gashapon (capsule toy machines) and character figurines during their ride.

In addition to their fun themes, they often run between famous locations. For example, the Hello Kitty Shinkansen takes passengers between Osaka and Hakata, and the Thomas the Tank Engine train travels through the scenic countryside of Shizuoka. These trains offer an exciting experience and showcase Japan’s stunning landscapes, making the ride even more magical.

What is the zombie train?

This is an extraordinary haunted experience on the shinkansen (Japan’s high-speed bullet train). Inspired by the movie Train to Busan, this eerie ride goes from Tokyo to Osaka, turning a regular trip into a zombie-filled adventure!

The Kowagarasetai (Scare Squad) created the event to transform the ordinarily peaceful train into a thrilling horror scene. It’s considered the first-ever haunted house on a moving train, where passengers encounter various zombies in a fun yet spooky atmosphere.

What can I expect?

Zombies Everywhere!

From the moment the train departs, expect zombies to appear unexpectedly throughout the journey. They will be actors dressed as various types of zombies, including zombie train conductors, athletes, and even zombie clowns!

Interestingly, the zombies will suddenly appear and interact with passengers, making it feel like you’re part of a real zombie apocalypse. Zombies might pop up from unexpected places, such as the aisles or behind seats, keeping the ride thrilling and full of surprises.

Exciting Performances

This Halloween train ride isn’t all scary! You can enjoy entertaining performances by zombie dancers, clowns, magicians, and an orchestra. There’s even a chance to see choreographed dances to famous songs like Michael Jackson’s Thriller!

These acts are designed to lighten the mood between the terrifying encounters and ensure the ride is not too intense. The blend of horror and humor keeps passengers entertained throughout the two-hour journey.

Interactive Fun

You’ll also participate in activities like taking pictures with the zombies or watching special zombie-themed shows. Passengers can join fun challenges, working together to survive the “zombie invasion,” creating a sense of adventure and teamwork. These activities make the experience even more interactive and engaging for everyone.
