It’s January 2026, and the year of the horse has begun. In the Chinese Zodiac, the horse is the seventh of twelve signs.. For a particularly wily and rascally horse in Kawasaki, it meant that it was high time to hightail it out of Meiji University on the morning of Monday, the 5th. Listen, if this is the year of and about horses, we’re starting it off with a bang and a gallop.
On the morning of January 5th, a Monday, a horse escaped from Meiji University’s Ikuta Campus. The specifics as to how the horse managed to escape its stable are unknown, but the animal was spotted walking along roads near Odakyu Line’s Ikuta Station in Tama Ward. A person reported to local police, “A horse is wandering around.”

Luckily, there was no further incident with the rogue animal. Before police or animal control services could act on the matter, the horse returned to Meiji University campus on its own. This might seem small and not particularly newsworthy, but horses are mighty animals that should not be taken lightly. It’s very fortunate that A), the horse was not injured in any way while out on its stroll and B), that it didn’t hurt anyone while gallivanting about. Had it been struck by a car or if someone had attempted to approach the horse, there would have been serious injuries.
Overall, the horse was quite polite. It just went for a walk, stretched its legs, and returned to campus on its own. Some critics say the university should have had stricter security. Still, accidents happen. It would have been better if the horse had stayed in its stable. But it clearly wanted to horse around outside of Meiji University.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the horse symbolizes leadership, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to goals. They can be some of the most outgoing and fearless people around, and once they’ve set their sights on something, they’re unwavering in their path. Of course, they can come off as a bit foolhardy and even arrogant to some, but this is just part of their boundless personalities.

On the flip side, people born under the sign of the horse can often get bored easily and can even become a bit vain. These aren’t dealbreakers, but can sometimes shake up their goals and relationships if left unchecked. Just like every other sign, horses have their strengths and weaknesses, and it’s up to the individual to understand them, adapt to them, and manage them in healthy and effective ways.
Now, while this news story was relatively simple considering neither the horse nor anyone else was hurt during its adventure, it’s still an amusing way to start the year of the horse. As stated earlier, horses can be seen as heroic leaders and unstoppable forces of nature when passion takes them over. In this horse’s case, it certainly didn’t let anything hold it back from leaving its home and venturing out into the wide world. It wasn’t quite the kind of adventure one would see in their favorite anime, but it’s still an enjoyable and silly way to ring in the new year.
So let’s take a sense of inspiration from this horse! Don’t let your predetermined restrictions impede you! Don’t let the idea that four walls and a door can hold you! The world is your oyster, and it’s up to you to experience it! Do so with pride, dignity, and a level head. Be sure to remember to return to your roots and home when the adventure has run its course.
Overextending yourself can end in tragedy, so it’s important to remember to take it easy when needed. There’s always tomorrow to strike back out on the path of life! Be your own leader, your own source of passion, and inspire those around you to be fearless, too!

Whether you believe in the Chinese zodiac or not, it’s still funny that the new year kicked off with a horse taking life into its own hooves. No one got hurt, it didn’t get lost, and life continued without a hitch. Sometimes, it’s nice to read a headline that’s silly and a little carefree. But for those who do pay attention to the zodiac, it’s also a fitting way to start the year.
Just like the real animals, horses can be stalwart and unstoppable. So as we said, let this be a sign to pick up the reins and rush into the new year with your head held high! What are your thoughts on the escaped horse? What do you think could have escaped if it were the year of the Dragon? Please let us know! We’d love to hear from you!
Every spring, people across Japan wait for the Japanese cherry blossom season to begin. Streets, parks, and rivers slowly turn pink as sakura trees bloom. Families and friends gather outside to enjoy the warmer air.
Planning the right items turns a basic outing into a smooth experience where everyone focuses on the blossoms rather than last-minute hassles.
Typhoon season in Japan brings powerful tropical storms every year. These storms bring strong winds, heavy rain, and the risk of flooding or landslides. Coastal and southern regions are hit the hardest. They are similar to hurricanes in other parts of the world.
Cherry blossoms transform Japan’s landscapes into seas of soft pink each spring, drawing crowds to historic parks and serene paths. Hanami, the tradition of viewing these blooms, thrives in spots where trees cluster thickly enough to create immersive canopies. These trees blend natural beauty with cultural landmarks that have hosted picnics for centuries. Among the...
The Japan Rail (JR) system leaves tourists in awe with its efficiency. Trains are fast, clean, and incredibly reliable. But even the best systems can have rough days, and that’s exactly what happened recently on the JR Yamanote and Keihin-Tōhoku Line.
If you’ve ever traveled to Japan, you probably know the thrill of stepping into a tiny ramen shop tucked between buildings, steam rolling out the door like a warm welcome.
