Tokyo is chock-full of outstanding food. You can pick from cheap and cheerful eateries to the city’s vibrant selection of international restaurants. For the home chef, the gourmet Tokyo store offer imported ingredients that might otherwise be hard to come by.

These supermarkets and grocery stores have all the imported food and drinks you can dream of. Whatever your reason for seeking specialty food stores, there are plenty of options! Here are some of the best gourmet stores in Tokyo that offer a wide variety of global fare.

Seijo Ishii

Seijo Ishii is a supermarket chain that aims to provide high-quality food at affordable prices. The upscale grocer has many imported wines, cheese, snacks, and ready-to-eat food from many countries. Think thin-crust Italian pizzas, Thai noodles, Korean kimbap rolls, and chocolates from Germany, just to name a few.

This fantastic chain of international supermarkets is primarily in train stations and malls around Tokyo. Seijo Ishii also has a range of exclusive products. One of the highlights is the delicious strawberry butter that was so popular it was limited to one per person.

Walking into a Kaldi store without leaving with something is almost impossible. It’s a great place to stock up on wine and worth browsing the cheese and cold meat section. Each store is usually organized by international cuisine. So you’ll find pasta and olive oils bulked together, while Korean instant noodles and gochujang will be in another section.

This store is also a coffee-lovers dream, as there’s everything that you need to make a perfect cup of coffee. They stock over a dozen varieties of coffee beans for in-store, pre-ground, and instant coffee. They even hand you a complimentary cup of coffee while you shop!

In the deli corner, sausages are sold by measure, and you can get cuts of cheese shipped from France. Buy as much as you desire, or ask for more minor cuts of various cheeses. Meidi-ya’s canned Vienna sausages have a distinct taste that will have you hooked. Drip a bit of mayonnaise and soy sauce on top, and they will go wonderfully with white rice.

A visit to National Azabu is like a visit to a supermarket overseas, with more local expats than Japanese customers. It is a short distance from Hiroo Station on the Hibiya subway line. It provides an international experience, from the trendy indoor decor to the American-style aisles and the products they sell, from ready-made gourmet meals to a flower stand that offers a variety of festive seasonal plants and decor.
