Sometimes the best things in life are free, and Tokyo is no exception! There are plenty of amazing free attractions to visit, but it’s hard to pick out of them all in Tokyo. The list of must-sees is potentially endless! There’s so much to see and do in Tokyo…but we’ve tried to narrow it down to our top 5! Why not try to visit them all?

1. City View at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building

Just a short walk from Shinjuku Station, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is recommended purely for its observatories on the 45th floor. The deck is roughly 202m above sea level and most importantly is totally free to enter. On a clear day you can even see Mount Fuji! And the view at dusk or night time is even more entertaining, the lights make Tokyo even prettier. Who’d have thought that one of the best views available in the city would be for free? (∩╹□╹∩)

2. Shibuya Scramble Crossing

This is one of the hottest photo spots in Japan! The Instagram-ability of this famous location is pretty much endless! The World’s busiest crossing is passed by about a half million people daily… that’s a lot of people, right? The view of passengers coming from all directions at once when the traffic lights turn green is simply stunning. It might not be free, but an additional tip is securing a seat in the Scramble Crossings local Starbucks so you can watch people rush about their daily lives whilst you relax with a coffee. d(>_・ )

3. The Beauty of Hanabi

Are you in Japan for the summer? Yes,! You’re super lucky then! Fireworks festivals (Hanabi Festival) in summer are a huge deal in Japan. Fireworks are super popular in Japan and you can so many enjoy different kinds of amazing fireworks at once! Hanabi festivals always attract crowds of people, so make sure to come early in order to secure yourself a good spot, or if you enjoy being a part of the crowd, then have fun exploring the various food stalls whilst watching the show above!

4. The Rainbow Bridge in Odaiba

Australia has Harbour Bridge, England has London Bridge and in 1993, Japan built their own bridge in Tokyo and named it Rainbow Bridge. You have to make sure to take a walk across the truly beautiful Tokyo Bay. The bridge is an easy walk, but be warned, you do have to share the bridge with traffic so it isn’t the quietest of walks. (⌒_⌒;

The walkway access times are 9 AM to 9 AM in the summer and 10 AM to 6 AM in all other seasons. Another thing to note is when there are strong winds, the walkways may be closed for safety concerns. The walkways are also routinely closed on the third Monday of the month. It might sound a little restrictive, but it’s worth it!

5. Explore Harajuku

Harajuku is known as being the hub for Japanese pop culture. Don’t worry if that doesn’t interest you too much though, Harajuku isn’t only about teen culture and shopping. One of Tokyo's major and most famous shrines, Meiji Jingu, is located just west of the Yamanote railway tracks in a large green oasis shared with the spacious Yoyogi Park, Tokyo's largest public park and a popular spot for people to escape the city.  We highly recommend checking the neighbourhood of Harajuku that offers plenty of things to do and see. So be sure to do some exploring!
