Zushi is a hidden gem that offers a refreshing escape from nearby Tokyo. This charming seaside town beckons visitors with its pristine beaches, scenic views, and relaxed atmosphere. Let’s look closely at Zushi and what it offers this summer!

Where is Zushi?

Zushi is a fantastic beach town in Japan, located in Kanagawa Prefecture. Imagine you’re looking at a map of Japan – Zushi would be on the coast, not too far from Tokyo, the big capital city. This town is unique because it’s right between some other famous beach spots. On one side, you have Yokosuka; on the other, there’s Kamakura, and to the south, you’ll find Hayama!

What makes Zushi popular is that it’s close to Tokyo. If you’re in the big city and want to go to the beach, you can get to Zushi in about an hour. That’s why many people from Tokyo like to visit Zushi for a day trip, especially in the summer.

The main attraction in Zushi is its beach, called Zushi Kaigan. The water here is usually calm, so it’s great for swimming and water activities like paddle boarding. If you’re lucky and it’s a clear day, you might even see Mount Fuji in the distance!

Riviera Zushi Marina

Riviera Zushi Marina is a luxurious resort that makes you feel like you’re on an overseas vacation without leaving Japan. The marina has fantastic facilities, including a yacht harbor, a hotel, restaurants, event spaces, resort condos, and tennis courts.

One of the most impressive things about Riviera Zushi Marina is its beautiful location. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the Shonan Sea and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. It’s a picture-perfect backdrop for any visit.

The marina is also known for hosting various events throughout the year, making it a lively and exciting place. Some popular events include Summer Marina, outdoor music performances and white parties, jazz concerts in the “Shonan Jazz by the Sea” series, and seasonal drink specials at restaurants like Ristorante AO and Malibu Farm.

Tori Ichi

Tori Ichi is a popular restaurant chain specializing in chicken dishes, and it has a great spot in Zushi. Customers love its yakitori (grilled chicken on skewers) and delicious croquettes. The best part? It’s super easy to get to! If you’re coming by train, you can find Tori Ichi near JR Zushi Station and Zushi-Hayama Station. It’s only a three-minute walk from either station. So, if you’re spending a day at the beach or checking out the town, it’s a great place to stop for a bite.

Tori Ichi offers many different chicken dishes on its menu. It uses delicious ingredients and cooks everything the traditional Japanese way. The restaurant feels cozy inside, and the people who work there are nice. That’s why both locals and visitors like eating there so much. It’s a great place to try some authentic Japanese food in Zushi!

Meshiyacchan

Meshiyacchan is a cool seafood restaurant that’s really popular with both locals and tourists. It’s located between Kotsubo Fishing Port and the marina, which means it gets super fresh seafood every day.

The restaurant is famous for its yummy rice bowls topped with seafood, called donburi, and other dishes made with the fish caught that day. Some of their best dishes use tiny fish called shirasu and octopus from the area. People love Meshiyacchan because the food is delicious and doesn’t cost too much. It’s so good that it’s one of the top-rated restaurants in the area!

You can’t make reservations for regular meals because they like to keep spots open for people who just walk in. But if you want a big party or special event, you can talk to them about booking the place, especially for dinners during the week.

Mandarado Yagura Caves

The Mandarado Yagura Caves are an excellent historical site in the hills between Kamakura and Zushi. These aren’t natural caves—people made them a long time ago! Over 160 of these caves are arranged in three levels on a cliff about as tall as a three-story building.

These caves were first used as tombs for samurai warriors in the 1100s and 1200s. Later, they were used to keep the remains of Buddhist monks and wealthy merchants. The caves are super old—they’ve been around since the 1400s!

To get to the caves, you have to go on a hike through some pretty forests. You’ll even pass through ancient paths cut into the hills hundreds of years ago. It’s a great way to see some beautiful nature and learn about history at the same time.

Sometimes, the caves are closed to visitors, but you can still see them from far away through a fence. Even from a distance, they look pretty spooky and exciting! If you’re into Japanese history or old burial customs, the Mandarado Yagura Caves are worth checking out. It’s not a place many tourists visit, making it even more special!

Hiroyama Park

Hiroyama Park is an excellent place to visit. Imagine standing on top of a mountain, 90 meters high, and seeing the ocean, islands, and even Mount Fuji all at once! That’s what it’s like at Hiroyama Park.

From the park’s observation deck, you can see Sagami Bay stretching out before you, spot Enoshima Island in the distance, and on clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of the famous Mount Fuji. It’s like having a bird’s eye view of some of Japan’s most beautiful scenery.

But the park isn’t just about the fantastic views. There’s lots of fun stuff to do here, too. You can visit a small zoo to see some animals, play in the playground, or picnic on the grassy lawns. If you come in spring, you’re in for a special treat because the park’s cherry trees bloom with beautiful pink flowers.

If you enjoy playing outside, there’s space to run around and have fun. And if you just want to relax with your friends or family, you can sit on a bench and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you’re into nature, love beautiful views, or just want a fun place to hang out, Hiroyama Park has something for everyone!
