The Hello Kitty Cafe in Kyoto is Super Cute!

Unlike the Hello Kitty x Yoshinoya collaboration that was launched this week and only lasts a limited time, Hello Kitty has her own permanent tea house in Kyoto called Hello Kitty Saryo. So if you’re a Japanese snack and Japanese candy fanatic and worried you wont make it to Japan in time to visit the limited time character cafes like this Cinnamonroll one, then you can always visit Hello Kitty Saryo.
As you can see the shops exterior has a very traditional Japanese feel typical of Kyoto, this is because the building that hosts the shop used to be a Japanese style inn or ryokan and it’s in Higashiyama district which is one of Kyoto’s best preserved historic neighborhoods. Higashiyama also hosts the famous Kiyomizudera Temple and Yasaka Shrine, so after visiting these gorgeous historic sites you can stop off at Hello Kitty Saryo and relax whilst enjoying the cute and delicious dishes the cafe has to offer.
Not only is the interior cute, the cafe even has its own Japanese style garden with which manages to remain breathtakingly beautiful and traditional, yet also includes small adorable Hello Kitty details such as the stone statue pictured below.
They also have a special tea room tucked away in the garden which is based on Kyoto’s famous Golden Tea Room. You can partake in a Japanese Tea Ceremony with Hello Kitty there!
Now lets get to the most important part of the cafe! Which is of course the food! And oh boy does this cafe have a treat in store for all of you wonderful TokyoTreat subscribers who are obsessed with Japanese snacks and candy! The cafe has a very large selection of dishes to choose from so lets check them out~
Pictured above first is the Hello Kitty Matcha Green Tea Udon, second the Hello Kitty Matcha Green Tea Sushi, then last but not least the Hello Kitty Matcha Green Tea Curry. Have you noticed a theme with the items other than Hello Kitty yet? That’s right, all the items are Matcha Green Tea flavoured! Normally we would associate Matcha with Japanese candy right? But the cafe has made a great effort to incorporate this unique flavour into their savoury dishes too. This is also only a small selection of the savoury items available at the cafe, there are many more to choose from so even the most picky eaters are sure to find a dish they can enjoy!
Here’s a selection of some of the deserts available! Top is the Hello Kitty Matcha Frappe, then the Hello Kitty Matcha Pancakes and finally the Hello Kitty Matcha Parfait. Again all of these dishes look super kawaii and are bound to be tasty! The cafe has such a large collection of sweets to try its unbelievable and our tummies are rumbling just thinking about it!
Even the drinks are cute!! This Matcha Green Tea Latte comes in both hot and cold options and is by far the cafe’s most popular drink! Each one comes with a little Hello Kitty marshmallow on top which isn’t just cute but tasty too!!
If you don’t have time to sit down and eat the cafe offers various take out items like the Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream or Matcha Green Tea Dorayaki Pancake pictured above!
On top of all the delicious food items and gorgeous design the cafe has to offer, they also have a gift shop! The gift shop contains various exclusive goodies such as the konpeito candy pictured above as well as teas and other edible and non-edible goodies.
