If you're visiting Japan in September and October, you will see that Japan celebrates Halloween very well! You will find many places (such as theme parks and cafes) decked out for this spooky holiday. Many food and beverage companies also compete to launch their own special Halloween menus, including Krispy Kreme!
Krispy Kreme is a popular donut shop in Japan known for its cute and innovative creations. You’ll find many of their outlets all over the country! This Halloween, Krispy Kreme Japan has prepared their special Halloween treats early in an event called 'MONSTER HARVEST In Monster DINER'! This special menu can be enjoyed from September 11th until October 31st, 2019.
Let’s take a look at their Halloween menu:
1. Pumpkin Jack Custard Filled Donut (¥230)
One could say that the Jack O’Lantern is a Halloween Mascot! True to its name, this orange coated donut is filled with pumpkin-flavored custard and covered in pumpkin chocolate. The Jack O’Lantern trademark eyes and creepy smile are done in bitter dark chocolate. They even added a nice little detail: a single pumpkin seed as the stem on the top of the pumpkin head. This flavor is repeated on the menu every Halloween, but rumor has it that this donut will be even tastier this year!
2. Marron (chestnut) Cream Black Cat Donut (¥250)
Chocolate and cat? It’s a perfect collaboration! This Marron Cream Black Cat Donut is filled with a scrumptious white chocolate and chestnut cream made from fresh domestic chestnuts. This cat also has crunchy cracker ears, giant white chocolate button eyes, and a caramel chocolate nose and whiskers. Lastly, the bottom part of the face is sprinkled with tasty poppy seeds! The dough is made with chestnuts as well, a nod to the popularity of this ingredient during the autumn season in Japan.
3. Apple Caramel Monster (¥230)
Who likes apples? The apple caramel donut is a picture of an apple that is sneakily transforming into a monster. This one-eyed monster is covered in a red glaze with details made in dark and white chocolate. The apple flavor is special because it is made from real Aomori apple juice. Aomori is an area famous for growing the best apples in Japan. These fruits have a great balance of sweetness and tartness. This donut also has a pumpkin seed to resemble a stem.
4. Halloween Sprinkles Glazed Donut (¥190)
If you are a fan of Krispy Kreme’s original glazed donuts, don’t worry, they also have a special Halloween themed one! You could say that this is a glazed donut with a twist! This Halloween specialty has a special purin (pudding) flavor and comes with sprinkles on top.
There are additional simple mini Halloween donuts that you can buy in bulk. To seal the deal, Krispy Kreme Japan also has special packaging for their Halloween donuts, you can check the price list and info here. It all looks so tasty, right?
