October is coming, and it means the autumn season is approaching as well.
As usual, Japan has no creative limit when making new snacks and beverages. Unique, specially flavored treats are being released multiple times each year. These limited-edition treats are sold season by season. For example, sakura-themed sweets are sold in April during spring and Peach-flavored ones are sold in the summer. Now that the colors of the leaves are changing, it's time for autumn-themed snacks and beverages!
The TokyoTreat team has been in pursuit of this year’s autumn-themed delicacies across the country, and now we will happily tell you about the 5 best autumn-themed treats in Japan this year, just like we shared about the best Japanese snacks of all time before. Curious about it? Here they are!
5. Mister Donut’s Sweet Potato Donuts

In order to welcome the autumn season, the popular Mister Donut chain in Japan released 5 limited edition donuts with a starchy twist. These yummy donuts are to be sold from September 6th. You can choose between Plain, Purple Sweet Potato, Candied Sweet Potato, Sweet Potato, and Brown Sugar & Kinako flavored donuts. They all sound delicious, don't you think?
4. Starbucks’ Autumn-Themed Frappuccinos

Starbucks is one of many beverage chains to offer a special menu on various occasions. This fall, Starbucks is releasing three special frappuccinos to celebrate the autumn season.
The first two are the Green Apple Jelly Frappuccino and Baked Pink Apple Frappuccino pair. You can choose between the mix of sweet, tart, and creamy sensations of the Green Apple Jelly Frappuccino or extra sweetness with a touch of cinnamon in the Baked Pink Apple Frappuccino. These pairs are sold from August 30th through September 19th, 2019.

However, they also have another autumn-themed frappuccino to be sold from September 20th to October 10th: Sweet Potato Gold Frappuccino!
The sweet potato is mixed into the drink to give it an extra-crunchy consistency, and in addition, Japanese sweet potato syrup-inspired sauce is drizzled over the frappuccino. Sounds so fancy and exciting, right?
3. Haagen Dazs’ Japanese Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Ice Cream

Häagen-Dazs, the famous ice cream chain, also participates in creating special menus to welcome the new season. This year, Häagen-Dazs releases two limited edition autumn-themed ice creams: Rich Pumpkin and Murasaki Imo Tartelette!
The Rich Pumpkin ice cream has a double-dose of delicious kabocha (Japanese Pumpkin) and is enhanced with kabocha sauce. They are both specially made using the prized Ebisu kabocha from Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido.

Meanwhile, the Murasaki Imo Tartelette is a part of Häagen-Dazs’s Crispy Sandwich line. It consists of custard ice cream, murasaki imo (purple sweet potato) sauce between two light purple-colored wafers. Sounds like a true delicacy, doesn’t it?

After releasing the hyped Peach Coca-Cola last year, Coca-Cola is back with their new surprising flavor this autumn: Apple Coca-Cola!

1. Kit Kat Autumn Trio

Known for its vast varieties of flavors depending on region and season, Kit Kat also released their own autumn-themed flavors for the year. Not only one flavor, but three!
The first are Apple Pie Kit Kats. Offered as part of the "Adult Sweetness" series, you don't have to worry about the sweet taste as this Apple Pie flavor is not too sweet and suited for a more grown-up palate. This Kit Kat was also featured in our October box this year!

Second are Chestnut Kit Kats. This delicious autumn treat offers white chocolate-covered wafers filled with sweet chestnut cream. In other words, this Kit Kat fits perfectly with the nice weather of Autumn!

Last, but not least, are Sweet Potato Kit Kats. Although Kit Kat has had several sweet potato flavors before, this new Sweet Potato Kit Kat promises an authentic Japanese sweet potato flavor enrobed in white chocolate.
