Someone holding a chocolate candy bar, also known as Yuraku Black Thunder.

When it comes to chocolate candy bars, most Japanese people would immediately think of the well-known chocolate snack when you say “Black Thunder.” The Black Thunder chocolate bar, from supermarkets to small local convenience stores, has become one of the most popular candies in Japan!

Black Thunder is popular with people of all ages because of its cost and great taste. Keep reading to know more about this delicious chocolate that hits the sweet spot for those who seek choco-enlightenment!

What is Black Thunder?

Black Thunder is a long-selling snack with a crispy texture and rich, sweet chocolate taste. It’s a bar of rice puffs covered in chocolate with cocoa-covered biscuits!

It makes sense that a chocolate treat with a name as powerful as Black Thunder would taste strong, something like (pun intended) a big thunder. While calling a chocolate bar “Black Thunder” may be expected in the West, this delicacy originated in Japan. Black Thunder is one of the most creative chocolate candy bars out there!

The Best Chocolate Candy Bar: Black Thunder Origin

The Black Thunder chocolate bar, created by Yuraku Confectionery Inc. and initially introduced to the market in 1994, was an instant hit with Japanese consumers. One of the most popular chocolate candies in Japanese history, Yuraku sells over 100 million bars in a single year.

A bite-sized treat, about three inches long and one-and-a-half inches wide, the candy bar has made its name by providing memorable satisfaction in compact packages.

It’s a delightful little chocolate that comes in mini multipacks or XL versions. You should try something other than this Japanese treat yourself, as it’s one of the country’s most affordable and delicious chocolate candy bars!

How Do These Chocolate Candy Bars Taste?

The Black Thunder looks just like your typical chocolate candy bar. The cocoa cookies give it a great crunch. It makes a loud, satisfying “thundering” sound when broken in half since it has dark chunks of bittersweet chocolate cookies.

Although chocolate has a mild scent and flavor, its sweetness hits the spot. Unlike other chocolate bars on the market today, it is not too sweet. One taste of the Black Thunder may make someone outside of Japan think of the chocolate-covered Oreo cookies. While it’s less sugary, it tastes very similar.

The Black Thunder could become your new favorite if you love dark chocolate and general deliciousness. Something about the flavor combination within this chocolate bar that is just so satisfying.
